Say Bye Bye to “I'm UnMusical"
You’ve tried to “just listen and feel it”, but you were never guided to what to pay attention to.

You may have the technique and the choreography — but if you’re only catching the lyrics or the loudest slap of the drum, you’re missing the emotional current underneath.
And that current is Maqam.
You have been told 'Maqam is just for musicians' when all answers to your musicality are inside the music. And all of Arabic music is made of maqam

This challenge will transform the way you listen and will give you the confidence to describe what you have always felt.

Because musicality isn’t a gift.
It’s a skill you can develop, trust, and feel.

Taqsim Unlocked for Dancers — Live Sep 20th: If taqsim has ever felt confusing — like you don’t know what to listen for, when to move, or how to respond — this 2-hour live training with Maya will help you hear it from the inside. On September 20th, 16:00–18:00 GMT, Maya will break down the inner structure of a free taqsim and balady taqsim, so you can dance with more presence, musicality, and confidence. You’ll also get a bonus live Q&A on September 26th, plus 30 days access to the replay after the Q&A. Normally £197 — add it today for £97.

Here’s What You’ll Learn Over 5 Transformative Days

DAY 1
The Hidden Alphabet of Arabic Music
Learn what Maqam actually is, why it’s the emotional foundation of Arabic music, and why it’s essential for dancers. This is where the mystery starts becoming a map.
DAY 2
Maqam as a Cultural Code Beyond “Happy” and “Sad” Maqamat
Maqam doesn’t work in one-size-fits-all emotional labels. Learn how one maqam can hold light, darkness, tension, and release — so you can hear and feel shifts in emotion and express it with more depth.
DAY 3
How to Recognize Shifts in Emotions By Ear
This is not about fancy names. This is about naming the emotion. You’ll learn to recognize emotional changes intuitively just by training your ear and and having the language to describe the magic happening in the music.
DAY 4
The Inner Architecture of Tarab & Emotional Peaks
Learn how musicians create those spine-tingling emotional peaks through tension and release — so you can start listening for, anticipating, and transmitting these brief tarab moments that make Arabic music so powerful, before they pass you by.
DAY 5
Demystify Taqsim
Taqsim is not a random mystery — it has an emotional arc. Taqsim stops feeling scary when you know its shape stages and and flow. Learn to hear the arc, feel where you are, and ride the flow with the calm, confident smile of a dancer who dances inside the music.

Here's How Each Day Will Unfold
Each day, I’ll host you live through the full experience: we’ll watch the training together, interact in the comments, clarify what’s coming up, and continue into a 20–30 minute live bonus training.

This is not just a replay. It’s a guided live experience designed to help you hear, feel, and integrate the music in real time.

Meet Your Mentor: Maya Youssef
I’m the world’s leading Maqam & Taqsim mentor, an internationally celebrated and multi-award winning musician and composer — known by the BBC as the “Queen of the Qanun.”

I grew up in Damascus inside the sound world many dancers are trying to reach: Melodies that carry memory, tension, longing, celebration, and tarab long before a single word is translated.

Later, conservatory training and my Master’s in Ethnomusicology gave me language for what I had lived instinctively. But it was working with dancers that showed me the real gap: They did not need a musician’s lecture. They needed a way to hear the emotional architecture of the music through the body.

Along the way, I’ve been recognised as an Exceptional Talent by Arts Council England, performed on world stages, and shared my music across the globe.

I love helping dancers understand Arabic music more deeply.

That is why I created The Maqam Building Block System™ and adapted it for dancers: Not to turn dancers into musicians, but to give dancers access to the musical world their bodies are already trying to enter.

If you’re excited to unlock a deeper layer to your musicality, you are in the right place.
